Yosegi is a type of Japanese geometric pattern woodworking which originated in the Hakone Mountains since the Edo period. The patterns are created by using different coloured Timber for each section. Colours commonly used in Yosegi patterns are white, black, yellow, brown, purple, blue and red. The wood is cut into oblong rods before being glued together to create the pattern. After which thin slices of the pattern are cut off and glued onto the boxes. The boxes are then finished in lacquer to add glaze and protection.
